Basics on Uploading YouTube Videos, Part 2

June 17, 2021

In part one of this two-part blog, we went over some of the initial steps and basics to uploading a YouTube video. This network is vital for many online marketing pros to really maximize their reach, but some business owners have very little experience using the platform.

At SEO Werkz, our social media services include helping you with a huge array of platforms, including YouTube. In today’s blog, we’ll go over a few of the post-upload stages – how to tag and title your videos, what purpose thumbnails serve, how to operate your YouTube page and what to look for in terms of analytics.

Title, Tags and Description

Once your video has uploaded and processed, you move to the vital stage of the title, tags and description. The title is the single most important piece of information you’ll put out there – it should be relevant to your brand and company, and should speak to what your prospective clients are likely to be searching for. Avoid vague or complicated titles that make it even slightly difficult for anyone to figure out what the video is about. Google regards titles very highly when ranking video search results pages.

Also vital are descriptions and tags, the former of which go in the description. The right keyword placement will help your video rank higher – the more relevant this information is, the better.

When your video is being generated, YouTube will offer your three choices of thumbnail – though you can say no to all of these and create your own thumbnail image if you so desire using the “Custom Thumbnail” button. If you choose this, we recommend using 1280x720 pixels.

Thumbnails will be seen on your channel, playlists, previews, and anywhere else the video is embedded. It should be a creative way of expressing what the video is about, one that looks professional and draws in curious eyes.

Your Page

As you begin uploading more and more videos, you should take some time to visit and manage your dedicated YouTube page. This page has its own URL, allowing for comments, likes, shares and other user interaction with your videos.

It also houses important settings like audio, annotations, enhancements and even closed captions if you need them. It also allows you to view video analytics or manage your channel, plus is the primary place you’ll want to be for social sharing – it leaves you with embed codes that are great for sharing videos out.

Make sure you utilize the analytics sections of your page regularly. These will show you the kinds of content your audience is responding most to, plus what they might want to see more of. You’d be surprised how much you can learn about your entire business from these analytics, not just your videos.
