Avoiding Common Website Content Errors, Part 2
June 17, 2021In part one of this two-part blog, we went over some of the common mistakes made when it comes to website content. Often spotted during our standard content audit we’ll perform near the start of our SEO and web design services, these mistakes can range from small errors that lower your traffic to huge ones that block major demographics from seeing your site.
At SEO Werkz, our team is on hand to help you with all content-related concerns for your site. Today, we’ll continue our rundown with this list with a few more specific mistakes to avoid in the website content world. Let’s get started.
Mistake #5: No Pricing Information
In many cases, we understand why you’re reluctant to include pricing information on your website. Many companies can’t offer exact pricing due to services that depend on various factors, and don’t want to lead their potential clients astray.
At the same time, though, it’s important to still have some pricing information available even if this is the case for your business. Even if this is just a range of possible prices based on various services, it’s far better than nothing. This saves the sales team a ton of wasted time due to bad leads, plus helps you establish trust with your prospective customers through transparency. Provide as much information as you can here.
Mistake #6: Page Duplication
As we get into 2019 and even further into the future, more and more websites are making the migration over to HTTPS formats after receiving an SSL certificate. When making this migration, some forget to have 301 redirects set up from the original HTTP format – this might duplicate your entire site, which can impact your search results when search engines aren’t sure which page to crawl. You also may end up with some sites with “www†while others don’t have them, leading to redirect issues. Make sure you regularly crawl during a migration to avoid this.
Mistake #7: Too Much Technical Jargon
We understand that you want to give possible clients an idea of what you do, but you want to avoid going too deep with technical terms here. All pages should include basic information about what the product is, why someone should care about it, how it will improve their life or make it more convenient, and what they should do next if they’re interested.
Too much beyond this might be complicating things a bit too much. There are certainly industries where technical information is important, but don’t overdo things here just for the sake of sounding like an expert. This will actually turn lots of clients off, even if you don’t mean it that way.
Mistake #8: Bad Linking and Architecture
The actual content itself is important, but so is the way it’s organized within the site. Your most important pages should be easy to find and should contain a great user experience, and part of this is through internal linking. Take time to figure out which parts of your site make the most sense for linking to and from rather than just doing this randomly.
