Basics on Google Trends Changes
June 17, 2021For some time, Google Trends has been a valuable tool for internet marketing managers around the advertising world. It makes it possible to search trends within web searches, allowing marketers everywhere to glean vital information about potential demographics.
Now, Google is adding new filters to this trends data that will make it possible to view trends that go well beyond just web search alone. Let’s look at these new filters, and how they might impact your efforts.
Channels Available
As of this writing, Google is adding new filters to trends data. Real-time search trends can now be found on specific search terms within additional channels, such as YouTube, News and Images searches, and Google Shopping. As Google writes on its Keyword blog:
“We’re opening up more data to show what people in the world are looking for, as they’re looking for it.”
The new filters will allow for far more detail when people, including advertisers, are looking for important trends. Let’s look at a few specifics in our next section.
Searching by Trend
To see trends filtered out by specific search trends, you take a couple basic steps. First, choose the search term you’re looking to research – let’s say you want to investigate all search trends for a popular musical artist on YouTube. You’d select that artist from the Trends search bar within Google, which will allow you to select to see search trends on Image Search, News Search, Google Shopping and YouTube Search. In this case, you’d quickly click YouTube Search and voila, you’d have detailed search trends just for that channel.
Filters
In addition, you can add further filters for even more specificity. Data is available for “Interest over time” as well as “Interest by region,” and there are also lists of related topics and related queries that can be found for each channel.
